TARGET AUDIENCE: The conferences are designed for health care, social science and other professionals, and family and community members working with older adults in rural Oklahoma.  Both events are open to the public.

APPROVED CEU: Nursing, CFLE, MSW, LCSW, LADC, LPC, LMFT, and CPE for Registered Dieticians and Registered Dietetic Technicians.

PENDING APPROVED CEUS: CPE for Pharmacy Education, OPA, National Association Board - Long Term Administrators, Assisted Living Administrators (NAB), OT, and PT. Look for updates on http://osu-okgec.okstate.edu/okgec.

MARCH 7, 2013. GRANDPARENTS & GRANDCHILDREN: INTERGENERATIONAL CONCERNS

The conference focuses on grandparents and intergenerational matters.  Sessions will be delivered on medical literacy, consent for medical treatment, caregiver needs, resources for grandparents, and coping with chronic health concerns. Some of the speakers include Todd Brockman, MD, The Eye Institute; Shari Moore, Vice President of Risk Management, Physicians Liability Insurance Company (PLICO); Gail Bieber, LCSW and Vice President of Programs, Alzheimer’s Association OK/AR; and Jane Garner, MA, OKDHS Aging Services Division. Dr. Brockman is the President of the Tulsa Surgical Society and serves on the Board of Directors of the Tulsa County Medical Society and the Oklahoma State Medical Association.

 


MARCH 8, 2013.  QUALITY CARE: FALLS, SAFETY, & OVERALL WELL-BEING

Presenters focus on a broad array of health topics and ethical matters. The topics include consent for special populations, quality health, falls and breaks, Alzheimer’s and/or healthy aging, and medical management. Some of the confirmed speakers are Laurence Rubenstein, MD, MPH, University of Oklahoma and Donald W. Reynolds’ Department of Geriatric Medicine; Joseph E. Leonard MD, Physicians Liability Insurance Company (PLICO); Barbara Stoecker, PhD, RD/LD;  and Mark Stratton, Pharm D, BCPS, CGP, FASHP, University of Oklahoma. Dr. Rubenstein is the President of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA).
